Jerez aspires to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031, and today the city received the title of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2026. This project, made possible thanks to the commitment of many individuals and groups, celebrates the legacy and dynamism of Jerez’s gastronomy and once again demonstrates its capacity to promote and lead national and international programs and events.<\/p>\n\n
The ceremony, held in the City Hall’s main hall, was attended by the Mayor of Jerez, Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Garc\u00eda-Pelayo, who received the title from the President of the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy Association, Mariano Palac\u00edn, and Ana Poquet, Councilor for Tourism of the Alicante City Council.<\/p>\n\n
In this way, Jerez reaffirms its commitment to promoting, recognizing, and disseminating its culture, including its gastronomy, which is capable of generating opportunities, employment, and wealth, and of attracting people from every continent. This event marks the beginning of an extensive program of activities that will take place throughout the year across the city, where tradition, innovation, past, and future come together thanks to the work and collaboration of the various sectors linked to gastronomy and hospitality. \n<\/p>\n\n
In her address, the mayor of Jerez stated that \u201ctoday is an important day because it is a dream come true. A dream for everyone.\u201d She emphasized that it is \u201can extraordinary responsibility.\u201d Jerez is becoming a showcase for Spanish gastronomy,\u201d for which she expressed her gratitude \u201cto everyone who made it possible.\u201d She also stated her conviction that the city \u201cwill demonstrate that it is one of the best cities in the world for food, drink, and lifestyle.\u201d \n<\/p>\n\n
The title of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2026 also comes within the framework of Jerez’s candidacy to become European Capital of Culture 2031. This experience will strengthen and align the city’s efforts to make culture the cornerstone of its future strategy.<\/p>\n\n
