The Special Commission for European Capital of Culture has been established at Jerez City Council

A few days ago, the Special Commission for European Capital of Culture was formally established at Jerez City Council. This is an institutional body representing all the political groups that make up the Municipal Corporation. It was created with the aim of jointly promoting Jerez’s candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2031. The creation of this commission reflects the spirit required for a project of this magnitude, conceived as a strategic commitment by the city and province.

During the constitutive session, chaired by the Delegate for Culture, Francisco Zurita, with the presence of the First Deputy Mayor, Agustín Muñoz, and representatives from the Jerez 2031 Technical Office and the municipal delegations of the Presidency and Culture, the main milestones of the process to date were discussed in general terms, as well as the next steps for a candidacy that is advancing in its work schedule.

Also announced was the celebration of the Jerez 2031 Forum (last Wednesday) at the Atalaya Museums. This event marked the beginning of a new participatory phase of a provincial nature aimed at strengthening the active role of citizens and the cultural and social fabric in building the candidacy.

Thus, the Special Committee for European Capital of Culture will meet every two months to monitor the actions and address any proposals its members may have. Finally, the City Council emphasizes its commitment to this project, an opportunity for transformation, cultural and economic revitalization, and international projection for the entire province of Cádiz.
