Flamenco is a central element of Jerez’s heritage and cultural programming as the city prepares to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031. This legacy forms part of the cultural brand of Spain, Andalusia, and Jerez worldwide, and in this city, it has generated an unprecedented model of inclusion for a minority group (the Roma community) through culture.
With this endorsement and the experience of 29 successful editions, the Jerez Festival presented its comprehensive program today at the Matadero Madrid Contemporary Creation Center. The program will run from February 20 to March 7. Thus, the city’s stages, streets, and squares will be filled with the activity of the 30th Jerez Festival and the hundreds of people who come to enjoy and participate in our flamenco culture from more than 30 countries.
In total, the program includes 48 shows, 15 of them premieres. This program, aligned with the #Jerez2031 European Capital of Culture candidacy, is committed to diversity and inclusion, with the creation of a specific program for people with disabilities.
Therefore, the performing arts program and training courses once again take center stage at this international festival that showcases Jerez’s flamenco culture to the world. The festival was presented today in Madrid by the Jerez Delegate for Culture, Francisco Zurita, and the event’s director, Carlos Granados, along with a group of artists.
This year, the Jerez Festival adds new offerings and venues to encourage participation from the public and the city’s cultural stakeholders, such as the Teatro La Gotera in Lazotea.
To promote sustainable mobility, the Festival will provide special shuttle buses so that the public can easily access and enjoy the dance performances by Manuela Carpio, Olga Pericet, Nino de los Reyes, Andrés Marí, Ana Morales, Salomé Ramírez, Farru, and the companies of Belén López and Julio Ruiz, along with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía and the Nuevo Ballet Español, as well as the singing and guitar playing of Mayte Martín, Arcángel, Lela Soto, Yerai Cortés, Santiago Lara, and Ezequiel Benítez, among others.
