#Jerez2031 promotes European youth exchange through culture and music

Culture is synonymous with diversity, tolerance, and coexistence. Thus, the #Jerez2031 European Capital of Culture bid aims to foster bridges of artistic exchange among young Europeans by promoting a meeting through music and culture between young artists from Berlin (Germany) and the Flamenco Cultural Association Acompasarte.

The project, subsidized with European funds, promotes coexistence, integration, and cultural dialogue between young people from both countries, using art, music, and flamenco as universal languages of learning and connection. A total of 20 young people will participate, 10 from Germany and 10 from Jerez, accompanied by their instructors, in an experience that includes workshops, cultural visits, and joint artistic creation activities.

The initiative was spearheaded by the German organization Das Kombinat, in collaboration with Belén Heredia, president of the Flamenco Cultural Association Acompasarte, an organization founded in 2022 that works to promote Roma culture, equal rights, and non-discrimination. The German group, specializing in photography and video, will create a short documentary about the experience in Jerez while participating in a full program of activities.

Meanwhile, the young people from Jerez, aged 12 to 22, secondary and high school students from various schools in the city, will experience this exchange as an opportunity for mutual learning and will travel to Berlin in the coming months to continue the project.

The group of young artists from Berlin and Jerez were welcomed by Francisco Zurita, the Jerez City Council’s Delegate for Culture.
