Jerez’s bid strengthens its European commitment by proposing a working process for a common methodology to support the sector and is committed to initiatives that increase the role of youth in the participatory process of the bid book and cultural programs.
The #Jerez2031 European Capital of Culture bid officially presented today, within the framework of the 14th Culture Next Conference in Leeuwarden (Netherlands), the development of the thematic working group on more sustainable models for the cultural and creative sector, under the original name “Empowering the Cultural and Creative Sector: Towards Fairer and More Sustainable Working Models.” This is an initiative led by the European Union’s candidacy and will be carried out both in person and online throughout 2025 and 2026.
The objective of this initiative is to create a new pan-European methodology to establish protection mechanisms for the cultural and creative sector that guarantees decent and sustainable working conditions. The work dynamic seeks to create support mechanisms for the sector, adaptable to different levels of public administration, with minimum standards and common activation protocols across the European Union, with indicators for assessing needs and impact, as well as recommendations for improving cultural protection systems.
Conclusions: Youth and Culture, Keys to Europe’s Future
Among the most relevant conclusions of the conference held from July 8 to 10 by the Culture Next network of cultural cities is the unanimous recognition of the need to give greater prominence to young Europeans in the design and development of future cultural policies, a reality in line with the new phase of the #Jerez2031 participatory process, presented earlier this month to the cultural sector of the province of Cádiz.
Furthermore, the incorporation of specific tools for youth participation in the process of developing both the candidacy books and the implementation of cultural projects linked to the legacy of cities holding the title of European Capital of Culture is noteworthy.
