Jerez aims to be the Spanish City of Wine in 2026

The city of Jerez has announced its intention to be the Spanish City of Wine in 2026. This designation is granted by the Spanish Association of Wine Cities (ACEVIN) and aims to be “a shared project that can be extended to other municipalities in the province of Cádiz linked to wine culture,” and is also part of the roadmap for the #Jerez2031 European Capital of Culture bid.

If Jerez is recognized as the Spanish City of Wine 2026, it will be awarded to all municipalities in the province of Cádiz that make up the Marco de Jerez Wine and Brandy Route: Chiclana, Chipiona, El Puerto de Santa María, Puerto Real, Rota, Sanlúcar, and Trebujena.

Jerez was already a European City of Wine in 2014 and wanted to highlight the fact that 2026 marks the twentieth anniversary of the Marco de Jerez Wine and Brandy Route, the second most visited wine route in Spain, and that the city will once again host the Salón de Vinos Nobles (Vinoble), whose thirteenth edition has already begun.

The cultural, ethnographic, anthropological, and gastronomic heritage of Jerez has centuries of history linked to the winemaking tradition, as is the case, for example, with the Harvest Festival, which is of International Tourist Interest.

The Jerez region is not only one of the most important wine tourism routes in the world, but also represents “the origin of a unique and ancient tradition, a hospitable land that has welcomed travelers from all over the world for centuries, captivated by its wines and other attractions such as its unique cuisine.”
