A delegation from Victoria and the regional government of Gozo are currently visiting Jerez and attending a seminar on inclusion organised by the city’s Ateneo cultural association.
The partnership between Jerez (Spain) and Victoria (Gozo, Malta), both candidates for European Capitals of Culture in 2031 for their respective countries, took a decisive step forward today with the visit to Jerez of an official delegation from the Maltese city, led by the mayor of Victoria, Brian Azzopardi, and senior representatives of the regional government of Gozo, who were received at Jerez City Hall by Mayor María José García Pelayo and the municipal corporation.
This official reception is the first step towards twinning the two cities and was the prelude to a busy schedule of events that will continue until next Tuesday. It began today at the Alcázar de Jerez with the opening and start of sessions of the Inclusion Seminar promoted by the Ateneo de Jerez.
In this way, the cities of Jerez and Victoria reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the alliance between both candidacies by promoting initiatives with a deep social commitment to defending the European values of equality, tolerance and diversity. This is the case of the Inclusion Seminar, which will run until tomorrow, where, alongside the presentation of the CulturePIE project led by the Ateneo de Jerez, various topics will be discussed, such as the model of social integration of the Roma community in Jerez and the integration of the immigrant population in the city, among others.
