Music is a universal language, a bridge between cultures, a means of dialogue, coexistence, and co-creation. It can unite peoples, forge understanding, and move us regardless of who we are or where we live. In this spirit of harmony and celebration, the city of Jerez aims to celebrate European Music Day (June 21) with an intense program of performing arts and participatory activities throughout the weekend.
In this way, cultural groups, citizens, and the City Council are joining forces and resources to align the city’s agenda with the 2031 European Capital of Culture bid through a program of activities open to the public and all audiences, including concerts, theater, and more.
On the one hand, today, Friday, at 9:30 p.m., a free concert by David DeMaria and Juan Cid is scheduled for Jerez’s Alameda Vieja, transforming this urban and heritage space into a grand musical celebration. This day is dedicated to the vindication and promotion of music as a universal language of humanity. Two artists born in Jerez will join the stage, combining the experience and influence of David DeMaria with the enthusiasm of a rising artist like Juan Cid. In this way, the Youth Department of the Jerez City Council is supporting young musicians as one of the values that will enrich Jerez’s 2031 bid for European Capital of Culture.
On the other hand, the Teatro de la Gotera in Lazotea de Jerez (recently inaugurated) and the Joaquín Villatoro Professional Music Conservatory will celebrate the European Music Day (June 21) with a program that will last uninterruptedly for 24 hours, from 11:30 a.m. on Saturday 21, until 12:00 p.m. on Sunday 22 June, with activities of music, dance, drawing, theater or yoga.
This cultural and civic initiative strengthens the participatory and co-creative nature of the #Jerez2031 European Capital of Culture bid, as it exemplifies how the driving force behind our cultural project lies in the initiatives of citizens and cultural groups in Jerez and the province of Cádiz. On this occasion, the program of activities planned to celebrate European Music Day pays tribute to French musician Éric Alfred Leslie Satie, on his centenary.
