Jerez honors the 600-year legacy of the Roma people, a symbol of the #Jerez2031 European Capital of Culture bid

<p>In 2025, Jerez will celebrate the 600th anniversary of the arrival of the Roma people to Spain, a historic event that has profoundly defined the city’s cultural and social heritage and is a fundamental pillar of the #Jerez2031 European Capital of Culture bid. Thus, the city is preparing to celebrate the anniversary through cultural and educational activities designed in collaboration with the Fundación Secretariado Gitano (Gypsy Secretariat Foundation).</p>

<p>The artistic, musical, and cultural legacy is a fundamental part of Jerez’s identity and heritage. This is a shared heritage that is part of the #Jerez2031 bid for European Capital of Culture in 2031, whose purpose is fully aligned with the value of cultural diversity and coexistence.</p>

<p>In the process of developing the #Jerez2031 bid, the Roma community, with its rich artistic tradition, is an example of how culture can unite people, enhance not only a city but an entire territory, and also create new opportunities for sustainable development.</p>

<p>With this program of activities, Jerez not only seeks to honor the legacy of the Roma people, but also to reaffirm the city’s commitment to equality, inclusion, and the promotion of a more just and equitable society.</p>
