Jerez will collaborate with the National Association of Roma Presence to implement the European Routes of Roma Cultural Heritage

The city of Jerez will collaborate with the National Association of Roma Presence to implement the European Routes of Roma Cultural Heritage. This initiative is part of the key values of inclusion, diversity, and coexistence in the #Jerez2031 European Capital of Culture candidacy process.

Among the distinguishing values of #Jerez2031 is the vast cultural heritage of the Roma people in the city of Jerez, through a model of social inclusion through culture.

In this way, Jerez wants to commit to this initiative, which aims to raise awareness and promote Roma cultural heritage in Europe. These itineraries should be included as an indisputable highlight, given the significant contribution of Roma culture to the city’s tangible, intangible, musical, ethnographic, anthropological, and gastronomic heritage.

To realize these objectives, the Deputy Mayors for the Presidency, Agustín Muñoz, and for Tourism and City Promotion, Antonio Real, held a meeting with the president of the National Association of Roma Presence, Fabián Sánchez García, and Ramón Soto, of the Nueva and Cantarería Streets Association.

The National Association of Roma Presence was founded in Madrid in 1972 and has been declared a Public Utility by the Ministry of the Interior in 2005. The Association is a founding member of the European Network against Racism and the European Romani Institute for Arts and Culture. Its objectives include correcting negative opinions about Roma culture, disseminating Roma heritage, and contributing to social and civic understanding and communication.
